Samuel Chao Chung Ting (Chinese: 丁肇中; pinyin: Dīng Zhàozhōng; Wade–Giles: Ting Chao-chung) (born January 27, 1936) is a particle physicist and professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He received the Nobel Prize in 1976, with Burton Richter, for discovering the subatomic J/ψ particle. He worked for many years in several particle accelerators and he is the principal investigator for the international $1.5 billion Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) experiment which was installed on the International Space Station on 19 May 2011. AMS is still taking data in space, measuring galactic cosmic rays and looking for indirect search of dark matter and antimatter.
