Cosmic Ray Day Workshop
Saturday September 29, 2018 / 8.30 am - 3.00 pm
Punahou School, Mamiya Science Center.  
Bring your Laptop.

Students need to be accompanied by their teachers to participate!

The Cosmic Ray Day is an event for middle and high school teachers and students.
In the morning lectures and background informations on Cosmic Rays and Solar Activity, followed by activities on Solar Energetic Particles.
You will have lunch with Physicists and Astronomers, a great chance to talk with them about your curiosities! (lunch will be provided).

You will investigate how solar modulation affects particles, using the proton rate measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectometer (AMS-02), a particle detector flying on board the International Space Station (ISS).

Quarknet Masterclass at Punahou School - March 17, 2018

Welcome students to Masterclass, sign in sheet, nametags, etc

Hands-On Activities & Tour of Punahou Cosmic Ray Detector
Student Investigation with Rolling with Rutherford Activity, Discussion with Quark Puzzle Activity, and Discovery of the Top Quark Mass
10.00am -12pm
Welcome from T. Cocke & Talks from invited speakers: M. Tripathi, J. Kumar, V. Bindi
12.00pm
Lunch with a physicist (V. Bindi, J.Kumar, M. Tripathi)
Students will spread out to the different classrooms, each with a different physicist. Questions from students are encouraged.
12.45pm
Analysis preparation with Guided Practice (T.Coke)
Review of the presentation describing the data they will see.
1.00pm - 1.50pm
Data Analysis & Discussion of Results
2.00pm
Videoconference with Fermilab and other Student Groups
Students will discuss their results with students from other schools in other locations around the world with guidance from scientists at Fermilab.
3.30pm
Conclusions and Evaluation (T.Coke)
Students fill out evaluation of the workshop.
