- Semptember 26th, 2015
Cosmic Ray Day at the Windward Community College, Kāneʻohe
This is the activity we did at the Windward Community College. In this activity you will use the normalized proton rate (i.e. the number of protons per second arriving at Earth) measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) to explore how cosmic rays are influenced by the Sun, with an effect called solar modulation.
You will use measurements of protons with different energies to investigate whether solar modulation affects particles of all energies in the same way or if it is an effect that varies with energy.

Quarknet Masterclass: Hands On Particle Physics at Punahou School, Honolulu
What are the origins of mass? Can the basic forces of nature be unified?  How did the universe begin? How will it evolve?
High school students, teachers and physicsts working together on physics research projects exploring the hidden nature of matter, energy, space and time.

Lectures and discussions with UH particle physicists, Hands on tour of cosmic ray detector, Work with data from the CMS detector at CERN, Lunch with particle physicists.
