Minutes of the BEAST meeting
Friday September 25th 12:00 JST
The inner and outer BEAST detectors were installed at KEK.
Photos are available on the BEAST WEB page.
Schedule:
Haba reported that no changes to the schedule have been reported.
KEK-B startup around November 10th is expected. The next KEK-B steering
committee meeting is October 1st. At this meeting the final schedule will
be announced.
Installation:
Sahu reported that the inner and outer BEAST detectors have been
installed. The drift tube HV and signal cables were attached.
The preamp PC board boxes were installed on shelves. The MOSFETS
and diodes are being cabled.
Diode readout:
Varner reported that 2 more PCB readout boards were completed.
1 spare will be made soon. Next week he will check the calibration
of the high gain portion of the diode readout circuit.
Spares:
Rosen is supervising the construction of a spare drift tube quadrant,
10 spare MOSFETs and 4 spare diodes.
DAQ:
Gordon and Moffit reported that they were able to make histograms
of drift tube counts. The DAQ components seem to be functioning.
Simulation:
Rodriguez showed results on the GEANT simulation of BEAST.
All the detector components except for the EFC are done. The beampipe
and water cooling needs minor revisions. He also discussed work
on digitization of the BEAST signals. He is able to make histograms
of energy deposited and numbers of hits/event in the detector
components. For the simulation of SVD occupancy, the default GEANT
step size may be too large. He is currently using a 3 microsec
integration time for the calculation of detector response.
Future work:
We then discussed what remains to be done for the BEAST experiment:
Finish debugging and calibration of BEAST detector components.
Establish DAQ communication with KEK-B.
Install crystals abd finalize CsI(Tl) DAQ.
Finish full TURTLE+GEANT simulation of BEAST.
