Minutes of the BEAST meeting
Friday August 14 12:00 JST
Schedule:
Haba reviewed the current status of the schedule and the plan
for installation. We are now preparing for the installation of
a standalone version of BEAST and working with
the assumption that KEK-B commissioning starts November 10th.
Melbourne and Hawaii personnel are arranging travel
and resources to be compatible with this schedule.
Initially, the electronics stage and the base of the radiation
shield (Yoshioka) will be prepared. Cable racks, power and network
are being prepared. This work will be completed by the end of August.
The BEAST "bed" and beampipe support will be shipped on August 24th.
Beam pipe installation will be carried out by Sahu, Rosen and Haba
in early September. This includes placement of the beampipe
support and surveying/adjustement of the position. There will also be
a check of the beampipe cooling. This work should be completed by
September 5th.
In parallel, the EFC installation is being prepared by the Taiwan
group (M. Wang, Ueno et al). The EFC will be mounted on the
final quadrupole (QCS) from August 26-31.
Cabling and electronics are also being prepared.
The BEAST detectors will be shipped August 31st. After completion
of the beampipe installation, the inner BEAST will be installed
starting September 5th by Rosen and Sahu. The outer
BEAST, drift tubes and supports for the
crystals, will then be installed September 5-10.
This is followed by tuneup of the detectors, installation of the
DAQ by the Melbourne group (starting September 9th)
and then establishment of communication with KEK-B computers.
Personnel and Organization:
Haba asked for a detailed breakdown of the tasks in the above items.
Individuals for debugging the BEAST components at KEK
were identified:
Drift tubes (Sahu)
Diodes (Sahu)
MOSFETs (Moffitt)
DAQ (Gordon, Moffitt)
SVD (Tsuboyama)
CsI(Tl) (Zhilich, Kuzmin)
EFC (Ueno et al.)
DAQ:
Moloney reviewed the current status of DAQ tests at Melbourne.
The LINUX PC based readout system
was used to successfully readout CAMAC ADCs and Scalers at a 1 kHz
trigger rate. Details are in earlier e-mail message.
Sakai reviewed communication with KEK-B. He and Yamamoto are
developing a framework for communication with KEK-B and learning
to transfer information to/from NSM (VME Network Shared Memory).
NSM is connected to iocpytb3 (accelerator computer) and to the
BELLE online network. By the end of August, a template program
for extracting information from EPICs (accelerator database)
will be written.
Structure and Construction:
Sahu reviewed BEAST construction status.
All elements of the structure and beampipe support will be
finished by the end of next week. The diodes and MOSFET boxes
are being finished. The diode PC readout boards will be ready
by the end of August. KEK resources for BEAST detector operation
such as low voltage power supplies (+-5 V, +-15 V, and 80 V),
bubblers, flow meters, and gas tubing are being procured.
