Dust Gallery
The plots show example of dust trapping during the
BEAST background experiment. Dust (particulate matter) becomes
positively charged and is attracted to the e- beam (HER).
Dust trapping events were first observed and studied in detail
in the HERA electron ring. Dust trapping was also studied
at the PF (Photon Factory) by the KEKB vacuum group.
Background bursts in the diodes (DVLTnn) and drift tubes (PTnnn)
in the figures below are observed to coincide with drops
in the beam lifetime (lifeh). The frequency of dust events
seems to go down as the beam current increases. Perhaps the
dust is cooked ??
