Target Normal Sheath Acceleration at Jupiter LASER Facility for Qubit Synthesis

October 24, 2025 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

Speakers: Alice Koniges and group (UH Manoa)

Abstract: The goal of this project is to identify which color centers and host materials are most suitable and efficient for qubit synthesis. At the Jupiter Laser Facility (JLF), we employed the Titan Laser, which delivers 1–10 picosecond pulses with energies up to 300 Joules, to perform Target Normal Sheath Acceleration (TNSA). This technique was used to implant ions into diamond, silicon, and silicon carbide, thereby generating color centers such as nitrogen, silicon, and tin vacancies. Using a Thomson parabola and a streak camera for data acquisition, we confirmed which ions were implanted as well as the intensity and wavelength of the ion beam. Photoluminescence measurements were then used to observe the color centers formed in the samples and to verify their characteristic zero-phonon lines.
