PHYSICS AT UH MANOA
According to the history compiled by Vincent Z. Peterson in
1994, the first full-time physics faculty member was hired in
1923. An early notable episode involving a visit by Dirac
and Heisenberg in 1929 is recounted in a paper by San Fu Tuan. A rapid expansion, including astronomy and astrophysics, started in the 1950's and led to a new building in 1972 named after Prof. Kenichi Watanabe.
